Why classical education?

The primary goal of classical education is to educate the whole student: to inform his mind and soul. Classical education embraces tradition. It slows down; allows time for thought, delight, and wonder. It is less geared towards “arriving” or producing a student capable of performing one task for the good of society. Its pedagogy is more focused on cultivating a person capable of thinking well, speaking well, and persuading others of truth. Classical instruction offers its students beauty through quality models or types students work with to develop and hone skill.  Students of this tradition remain lifelong learners, never tiring of delighting in what God has created on this earth.

What specific subject areas do you cover during the school year?

  • Language Arts (writing, rhetoric, grammar, public speaking)

  • History (geography)

What if I choose The Core, will my student fall behind in sessions?

No. Although the student will miss the rich conversation and pursuits of Wednesday's sessions, the program is ordered in such a way that students will not fall behind. Studies will need to be completed at home on Wednesdays with parent guidance as needed.

What does the three hour block look like?

One hundred eighty minutes of discussion, conversation, review, reading, writing, delighting, exploring, and thinking! Our first session, approximately seventy-five minutes, will begin with grammar and move into writing. Next we will focus on our literature study for roughly thirty minutes. Our final session will use the remainder of the time to study geography.

What curriculum will you be using?

For the 2026/2027 school year The Attic Academy will be utilizing: Circe Institute's Lost Tools of Writing for persuasive writing, rhetoric, and public speaking, various sources for grammar, four literature studies (TBD), and a world geography literature based curriculum written by The Attic Academy.
